Improving Magazine Beach as imagined with crayons
Magazine Beach is not the historic site of Cambridge’s first newsstand. Like Somerville’s Powderhouse it is named a after a colonial powderhouse or powder magazine, where ammunition and explosives were stored. Magazine Beach is a park located between Memorial Drive and the Charles River. Neighbors in Cambridgeport have been organizing to restore and improve the park.
We are showing drawings of how 3rd grade students at The Morse School imagine the park might look. The students are from Aimee Kerr’s class and additional drawings are on view at Central Square’s Bank of America branch and Cambridge Savings Bank.
The Cambridgeport Neighborhood Association has been leading this effort with assistance from the City of Cambridge and the Mass. Dept. of Conservation and Recreation, the Charles River Conservancy and the Riverside Boat Club.
