MIT’s Faculty Newsletter reviews MIT’s own plans for Cambridge
Large parts of the new MIT Faculty newsletter are devoted to MIT 2030, a plan for the future of eastern Cambridge prepared by MIT’s non-academic real estate company. There is a lot to read here and much to think about. It is rare that any large development proposal gets such informed review. Much of the newsletter is concerned with internal matters such as how much space MIT may need for its academic missions, but there are also questions about how much MIT should do to house students, staff and faculty. Both MIT and Harvard take a long view of development issues. Few others can or need to be so patient.
